More than 10 million people visit one of the 130 aquatic centres in WA every year.
Royal Life Saving WA has partnered with LGIS for more than a decade to assess the centres yearly.
The assessments measure the performance of each centre against set criteria.
These criteria were set up in consultation with the Department of Health's Code of Practice for the design, construction, operation, management & maintenance of aquatic facilities.
During the 2018-2019 financial year, Royal Life Saving WA assessed 35 centres.
The average assessment score was 96.05 per cent - up from the previous year.
Of the total items assessed across the facilities, the centres were found compliant for 4430 of them, with 174 non-compliances and improvement opportunities identified.
The following top 10 improvement opportunities were identified in 2018-2019:
Water depth signage at entry points
