Injured? Get better faster with early physiotherapy intervention Back

The earlier an injury is treated, the quicker you can get back to doing the things you love; this is why LGIS now provides all members with access to our early intervention physiotherapy program.

We've partnered with Biosymm, a highly experienced early intervention specialist, to provide all local government staff with quick access to physiotherapy treatment for minor musculoskeletal injuries.

No matter if the injury was sustained at work or away from the work, if it interfering with the ability to perform their role, we can help your staff better manage their injury to avoid things getting worse, and providing support to get better. Through the service, workers can talk to a physiotherapist via secure video-link within 24 hours of requesting support, and get access to three physiotherapy sessions via telehealth or a local provider. The first appointment provides immediate assessment and advice to the worker, and following this, the workplace is provided a report with recommendations. Treatment starts quickly to avoid delays and improve outcomes.

The physiotherapist will connect with the worker and workplace to deliver:

  • Evidence-based assessment and advice to the worker on their musculoskeletal condition
  • Education and self-management strategies for the worker, including a personalised exercise program
  • Timely feedback to the workplace regarding suitable duties, treatment pathway and progress.

This innovative program encourages workers to report any musculoskeletal disorders which frequently cause aches, pains or discomfort and/or interfere with their ability to complete required work tasks. If left untreated, they could lead to a workplace injury and workers' compensation claim.

The benefits for members

Early intervention is about identifying and responding to warning signs and reports of accidents and incidents in the workplace. Responding early can reduce the likelihood of a worker becoming ill or injured, taking long-term sick leave, or workers' compensation absences. Ensuring early access to treatment has been shown to reduce the duration and severity of an injury or illness, enhancing recovery and facilitating an early return to work, resulting in lower claims costs and increased productivity.

Members can access the EIP for a work-related musculoskeletal injury HERE.
