We have two new injury prevention consultants in our WorkCare team to assist our members in reducing the risk of manual task injuries within the workplace.
They come with a vast set of experience and expertise and are keen to share their knowledge with our members to help improve workplace health.
Darryl Griffiths
Darryl Griffiths is an injury prevention consultant with 20 years of experience in ergonomics risk consulting. As part of the LGIS WorkCare Services team, he works with members to develop, deploy, integrate and manage effective and sustainable ergonomics processes. His expertise lies in the design and delivery of manual task and ergonomic solutions to improve workflow and employee retention, reduce claims, costs and injury rates. Darryl is a committee member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia (HFESA), WA Branch. He is also a registered occupational therapist and certified professional ergonomist in Australia. Prior to joining LGIS, Darryl held senior consultant roles with Marsh McLennan (USA), Bureau Veritas (North America) and University of Southern California.
Michael Scott
Michael Scott is an accredited exercise physiologist with over 12 years' experience in occupational health. He has a clinical background involving pre-employment health assessments, drug and alcohol screening, audiometric and spirometry testing, office ergonomics, and health promotion and wellbeing. Michael has worked across a broad range of industries including mining, oil and gas, government and healthcare.
Michael has joined LGIS as an injury prevention consultant within our WorkCare Services team. He will be visiting members across the state providing strategic injury prevention services, particularly focusing on ergonomics/work design, manual task awareness and assessments, and driving a participatory approach to the control of manual tasks within the sector.
Injury prevention services
LGIS' injury prevention services aim to mitigate workers compensation claims related to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) through the continued delivery of evidenced based services to our members.
Our injury prevention services have shown significant benefits to the Scheme since their commencement in 2014, with a 21% overall reduction in total MSD claims between 2013 and 2021.
The services focus on manual tasks and ergonomics, however the expansion of the manual task risk management program, online courses / resources, and job dictionaries provide members with specific tools to implement practical solutions for the control of manual task related risks. The injury prevention team will drive a participatory approach to the control of manual tasks, which aims to empower champions within the organisation to implement controls for high risk manual tasks. This approach aims to further reduce MSD claims and reduce overall claims costs within the WorkCare and Bushfire portfolios.
Services are aimed at all aspects of an employee within the workplace, and can be separated into four core areas – employment, induction, operational and strategic.
If you are interested in any of these services, or want to discuss how our injury prevention team can help your local government, email health@lgiswa.com.au or call 9483 8888.
