Workers compensation claims
Workers employed by WA local governments can lodge a workers' compensation claim in pursuant of the Workers Compensation and Injury Management Act 2023 (WA) should they injure themselves during their employment. The Act contains certain legislative sections that may have great consequences for you and LGIS if they are not followed rigorously.
One of these legislative sections is the strict timeframe in which the worker must be advised if their claim has been accepted following the receipt of the relevant documentations. The Act dictates that the injured worker must be informed if their claim has been accepted within 14 calendar days from the date you receive the following:
- The Workers compensation claim form, and
- WorkCover first medical certificate/first certificate of capacity (except damage to glasses or dental).
It is imperative that you, as self-insured employer, submit these documents to the LGIS WorkCare claims team as soon as possible after receiving them from the injured worker so they can be processed and we can advise the worker of their claim status within the 14 day timeframe.
LGIS has developed a timeline diagram to show how the process works.
To further assist us in processing your claims efficiently, the following documentations may also be required from you:
- The employer report form (validating the claim and providing details of earnings to calculate the rate of pay)
- The incident report/photos (to assist with interpreting the incident)
- Employer's statement
- Claimant statements (further information/evidence)
- Pre-employment medicals (pre-existing conditions)
- Vehicle accident release form
- Recurrence of disability claim form
- Application for expenses reimbursement form
During the course of a claim, LGIS will also reimburse the wages you pay the injured worker as a form of claims payment. Reimbursement payments are done following LGIS receiving the completed Wage Reimbursement Schedule from you.
All forms can be found on our claims form page - you will need to be logged in to access.
We require all fields to be completed including pay period dates, any full days paid, partial hours paid, and total hours paid. It will help us to process reimbursement if these forms can be sent in every four weeks. When we receive your reimbursement schedules, payment at our end will typically be processed within two weeks.
LGIS endeavours to continue working with you to ensure your workers compensation claims management process is compliant and efficient. If you have any questions about this, please contact the LGIS WorkCare team on 08 9483 8888.
