The 2026 Great West Aussie Adventure (GWAA) has once again brought local government teams across Western Australia together, combining physical activity, team spirit and a little friendly rivalry.
Now in its fourth year, the challenge continues to build momentum, with 40 teams taking part from across the state. Together, participants covered an impressive 182,624 km — a remarkable effort that reflects the energy and commitment local government staff continue to bring to health and wellbeing in the workplace.
More than just a fitness challenge, the GWAA has become a great example of how a shared goal can bring people together. It encourages healthy habits, strengthens connections across teams and adds a fun sense of competition along the way.
This year's results included some standout efforts. The Shire of Harvey recorded the highest average distance, with an outstanding 469 km per participant, while the City of Stirling topped the leaderboard for total distance covered, clocking up an impressive 25,255 km across the challenge.
One of the most notable achievements came from the Shire of Harvey, which was the only team to appear in both top five lists. That result reflects not only strong individual effort, but also a consistent team performance throughout the challenge.
The broader results were just as impressive. Together, the top three teams — City of Stirling, City of Melville and Shire of Harvey — contributed 57,645 km, accounting for almost a third of the total distance covered.
To put the scale of this year's effort into perspective, 182,624 km is roughly the equivalent of 4.5 laps around the Earth, more than 4,300 marathons, or about 240 million steps. It is an incredible collective result and a clear reflection of the enthusiasm that helped drive this year's challenge.
The 2026 GWAA has again highlighted the impact of a shared focus on wellbeing. Through encouragement, participation and a little friendly competition, teams across WA have helped make this year's adventure another great success.
