Claims process update

The new Workers Compensation Act went live on Monday, 1 July 2024 bringing with it changes to how LGIS manages and processes claims.

Our procedures and forms have been updated to align with the new Act. Additional updates will follow as WorkCover WA revises their processes and forms.

All members are now required to use the new forms located on the LGIS website > Claims > Claims Forms.

  • Form 1 - Employer Report Form
  • Form 8 - Reimbursement Form, and Worker Reimbursement Form
  • Workers Compensation Claim Form.

Also on our Claims page, you'll find answers to your Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) which we've prepared in conjunction with Jackson MacDonald.

Injury management update

From 1 July 2024, WorkCover WA mandates the use of their Return-to-Work (RTW) Forms https://www.workcover.wa.gov.au/resources/legislative-framework-approved-instruments-forms-and-notices/

Members can no longer use their own RTW forms for claims.

While the explanatory note for the new form is being developed, we're collaborating with WorkCover WA to provide clear guidance on how to use the new form.

For now, please refer to the amended WorkCover WA RTW Form. Please note that LGIS cannot be listed as the “insurer" since we serve as the claim's administrator for self-insured local government.

To simplify the process for members, your LGIS Claims Consultant or Injury Management Advisor will provide referrals to our partner, Workfocus Australia. Upon receiving a referral, they will contact you (and the worker) within 24 hours to draft a comprehensive staged RTW program aligned with the mandated WorkCover WA RTW Form).

The staged RTW plan will be easy to follow and manage between the local government, worker, and the general practitioner.

Workers identified as high risk or who remain unfit for more than three (3) weeks will be referred to an LGIS Workplace Rehabilitation Panel provider. LGIS Injury Management Consultants will support members throughout the process.
