Over 10 000 fires caused by lithium-ion batteries across Australia Back
Print

A recent article by ABC News reports that lithium-ion batteries are causing up to 12 000 fires a year in Australia.

Poor disposal of batteries has resulted in a crisis for waste management services across the country and is an ongoing concern for LGIS and our members. Incorrect disposal can lead to significant loss of infrastructure, loss of revenue, loss of critical services and potential injuries to waste management workers.

We'd like to remind our members to consult the LGIS Waste Management Guide and other articles on the risk of these lithium batteries, for guidance on asset and liability risk management for facilities that receive, handle, or store waste material.
