Virus outbreaks in Victoria and New Zealand are timely reminders that the threat of a second-wave of COVID-19 in WA remains.
When it comes to a WA outbreak local government must hope for the best, but plan for the worst.
At a recent press conference, WA Premier Mark McGowan reminded people that the State could not afford to become complacent.
"The virus could sneak back into Western Australia and spread like wildfire," he said.
"If we can learn anything from over east and overseas, including New Zealand, recently, it's that this virus can spread extremely fast."
LGIS, through its risk-consulting provider Marsh Advisory, can offer COVID-19 Hazard Assessments for local government.
After months of COVID-19 restrictions and in some cases - lockdown - Australian businesses, local governments and their workers have returned to work in some capacity.
Local governments are required to manage the hazards of COVID-19 for their workers, ensuring that adequate controls are in place
The safety, health and wellbeing of employees remains a priority.
The COVID-19 Hazard Assessment will assess existing controls, while it identifies areas of concern.
Risk consultants will work alongside local governments to build a comprehensive plan with safety at the centre.
The assessment will:
- Review and assess the systems and controls designed to protect the safety and health of workers, contractors and others within the local government organisation.
- Identify reasonable, practical steps to mitigate the hazards associated with COVID 19.
- Develop strategies for ongoing management of coronavirus associated hazards.
- Provide a detailed report with findings and recommendations to address any identified gaps.
