LGIS welcomes new WorkCover WA Principals and Standards

LGIS is currently implementing the new Principles and Standards released by WorkCover WA on July 1, 2020.

The Principles and Standards provide consistent service expectations to help insurers and self-insurers provide high quality workers' compensation services and experiences and protect the workers' compensation scheme.

The Principles are guiding statements that apply to service delivery and will be referred to by LGIS for all issues not covered by the Standards of Practice.

The Standards of Practice include six priority areas, identified by WorkCover WA, which have the greatest impact on workers and employers.

The creation of Principles and Standards occurred within a reference group of industry stakeholders and through community consultation.

LGIS welcomes the introduction of the Principals and Standards and is open to closer regulation of compliance by WorkCover WA.

Through the application of the new Principals and Standards LGIS will adhere to the six priority areas:

  1. Ensuring a fair workers compensation experience
  2. Managing claims to avoid employer and worker disadvantage
  3. Focusing on supporting a worker's recovery and return to work
  4. Keeping underwriting policies and practices transparent and fair
  5. Complying with WorkCover WA's regulatory and administrative requirements and;
  6. Maintaining records of all key policies, processes and decisions.

The regulator is giving industry members six months to apply to the new Principals and Standards but LGIS should have them in place by September 30.
