LGIS recently joined Atmos to deliver an information session on the new Privacy and Information Sharing Act (2024) WA (PRIS). The new Act brings with-it wide-ranging considerations for local governments and members should be preparing for 2026 when the new legislation comes into force.

The webinar, recording now available, covered the following:

• Introduction of WA privacy laws including what the Information Privacy Principles require of local governments (such as collection, use and disclosure of Personal information).
• The key considerations for local governments relating to Notifiable Information Breaches such as serious harm threshold, who and what needs to be notified, and how to work with contracted service providers during an investigation.
• Where to focus efforts in the short term, and where longer-term efforts will be required to become PRIS ready.

LGIS is working with Atmos to identify how best to support Local governments with the transition over the next 18 months.

Atmos is Australia and New Zealand's leading legal and advisory firm providing cyber, privacy and digital risk services. Atmos is a recently formed firm and provides LGIS members with a 24/7 hotline to obtain assistance with cyber incidents. This service was previously provided by the same team under the Clyde & Co banner. The transfer to Atmos occurred at the end of March 2025, and there have been no changes to member services under their LGIS Cyber protection.

The Atmos team have substantial experience supporting local governments across Australia when they've had a cyber incident.
