Maintaining vegetation near power lines

Maintaining vegetation near power lines introduces significant risk to both workers and the public that must be considered and controlled.

The Code of Practice for Personnel Electrical Safety for Vegetation Control Near Live Power Lines mandates how you control the risks associated with this task and should be read in conjunction with Electricity Regulations 1947 (WA), Regulation 316A.

The Code has been developed to ensure the safety of the general public and workers cutting trees near power lines and covers such topics as:

  • General safety requirements
  • Safe approach distances
  • Vegetation clearances
  • Work procedures
  • Competency and authorisation
  • Plant, tools and equipment

This Code of Practice is available from the Department of Commerce website or by following the link above.

For further assistance on applying this mandatory Code of Practice to your work practices, please contact your LGIS regional risk coordinator or the risk and governance team on 9483 8888.
