How are members using the LGIS health and wellbeing program? Shire of Collie shares their initiatives

Health education through seminars, webinars, and workshops deliver vital information on various topics raising health awareness.  These sessions are not just informative but also fun, engaging, driving positive health behaviour changes.
 
Using part of their annual health and wellbeing funding allocation and in line with one of our key wellbeing pillars, social connection, healthy minds and healthy body, Shire of Collie recently held a health and wellbeing initiative for all staff. On the day, our Health and Wellbeing panel provider, Healthy by Design, provided a fun and informative demonstration to educate staff on making healthier food choices.

Staff were well engaged, asked questions, and were keen to make a few healthier choices when shopping and cooking meals. Those that attended also received LGIS branded lunchbox kits and recipe booklets filled with delicious, easy-to-cook recipes for all.

Since the health workshop was held, staff have been making healthier food choices, and using their new knowledge to cook up homemade pizza recipes. There's also been sustainable behavioural changes like actively reading product labels to better understand the nutritional information in common products.

This year, Shire of Collie hope to run more health and wellbeing sessions, as well as educate staff on work/life balance, stress management, sleep and fatigue, and financial wellbeing. 

Using Scheme benefits – health and wellbeing

LGIS provide a broad range of health and wellbeing services to our members, which continues to be a highly valued part of the mutual scheme benefit.

This program is designed to create healthy workplaces, improve awareness and lower health and wellbeing risk factors. We believe that this not only leads to improved health outcomes, safety performance, and staff retention, but also reduces the risk of workers' compensation claims.

The service offerings have been refined to ensure they are evidence based in terms of their impact in raising health awareness and improving health risk factors at an individual level.
