Managing your motor fleet during holiday shutdown

For many local governments, the Christmas shutdown period is the only time during the year when all of their fleet is at one place. Whilst there are many advantages to housing your fleet in one place, it also does introduce significant risk in the event of a fire or other adverse weather event.

Help protect your fleet by:

  • Providing a buffer between parked vehicles, and between vehicles and other high value items such as buildings, structures and utilities.
  • Segregating high valued assets, such as heavy machinery and waste trucks.
  • Wherever possible, making sure the area is protected from unauthorised entry, that suitable external lighting and security lighting is in place and operational, and that CCTV monitoring is effective.
  • Ensuring fire detection and alarm signalling systems are working correctly and fire suppression systems have been inspected and tested.
  • Confirming that electric charging stations are isolated, fuel bowsers are locked, and any hazardous materials, gas bottles or flammables are securely stored.

If you require any assistance with the risk management aspects of your fleet, please contact the Risk team or your account manager.
